New Member Night slated for Nov. 14
Enrollment and re-enrollment is now open for the Greene County 4-H program.
The 4-H program is a national one that empowers young people in grades 4 through 12 to reach their full potential through working and learning in partnership with caring adults.
Interested youth can join Greene County 4-H by visiting the ISU Extension and Outreach – Greene County office to complete initial enrollment paperwork and to learn more about 4-H club options available to join to become an active member. Greene County 4-H currently has 10 active organizational clubs that meet across the county, including meeting sites in Jefferson, Grand Junction, Scranton, Churdan, and Rippey.
New 4-H members are welcome to join at any time during the 4-H year without a late fee penalty, but are encouraged to join as soon as possible. The annual youth development fee of $15 per member is due in the form of check or cash to Greene County Extension to complete enrollment. The enrollment fee is reduced from the usual $35 per person by four major sponsors, which include Greene County Environmental Habitat Corporation, Hawn Family Farms, Heartland Co-op of Rippey, and Rueter’s Red Power of Grand Junction. Each company annually contributes $5 per member for every 4-H member in Greene County.
Re-enrolling or returning 4-H members in Greene County are required to complete the online re-enrollment process for the 2014-2015 year by the close of business (4:30 pm) on Monday, Nov. 17. Also required by this deadline is the $15 per member youth development fee paid directly to the Greene County Extension office. No online payment option is available at this time. Re-enrolling 4-H members will be assessed a late fee of $25 per family if online re-enrollment and payment are not submitted by the Nov. 17 deadline. Families having difficulties with the 4-HOnline program are encouraged to contact the Extension office for assistance well before the deadline.
Greene County 4-H members enjoy many countywide events throughout the year. The week of Oct. 5-11 will be National 4-H Week, where members and clubs promote the positive youth development that 4-H provides in the form of decorating windows of local businesses, inviting new members to club meetings, speaking to classrooms about 4-H, and much more.
Anyone interested in learning more about 4-H can contact the Greene County Extension office. Interested new members are also invited to and encouraged to attend New Member Night, held every fall for first-year members. The event this year will be held Friday, Nov, 14, starting at 6 p.m. at the Greene County Extension office where parents and new members will learn more about the 4-H program. It will wrap up with free bowling and pizza at Spare Time Lanes Bowling Alley. To RSVP for New Member Night, contact the Extension office.
